Workshop Schedule

Whether painted, dyed, woodburned or carved, gourds can be transformed into works of art. In response to the increasing interest in gourds and gourd art, we're excited to offer a creative assortment of gourd crafting workshops to help you discover this wonderful pursuit.

All classes are held on our gourd farm just outside the quaint little town of Cookstown. Surrounded by lush gardens and the beautiful gourd patch, this is the perfect place for a day of learning and creativity.

Our instructors have many years of gourd crafting and teaching experience and represent some of the best gourd artists in Canada. Each is an expert in their field.

All classes, unless otherwise noted, are 6 hours in length with a half hour lunch break. A convenient starting time of 10 a.m. for all our classes makes for a leisurely drive from many parts of Ontario and the United States. All the following classes are rated for beginners.

Customers may cancel up to 10 days before workshop for a full refund. After that, a 25% service charge will be applied and the balanced refunded. No refund will be given if cancellation is within 3 days of workshop date.

Diving Dolphin

This is a great workshop for beginners who would like to advance their skills in gourd carving.The combination of wood burning and carving will be explored to create the diving dolphin. The background for the dolphin will be designed using gourd removal and stippling techniques. Students will learn how to use different bits for tighter areas. If time allows the dolphin will also be painted using water based paints. Workshop runs from 10 - 3. Students must provide own power carvers, burrs, bits, mask and burner. I have one burner but students would have to wait their turn to share it. Ear plugs are strongly recommended. Burrs and bits are available for purchase.

Clucking Along

Kick back, relax and enjoy the country air while designing your own country rooster. This laid back , nothing but fun workshop will teach you how to transform a gourd using paints and apoxie sculpt and a little imagination. Take a little country home!

Just Wing It

In this workshop we will explore various mediums to create 3 unique pairs of beautiful fairy or angel wings. The finished wings will be applicable on various types of figures, whether soft sculpture, polymer sculpture or other crafts. All materials will be supplied.

Sculpting a Woodland Elf

Sept 19th and 20th. From 10 - 4 This is a two day workshop, that students will learn the Leslie Bailey technique to sculpt and build a woodland elf. This workshop is for all skill levels. It is a great introduction to sculpting in polymer clay, as well as very beneficial to those with previous sculpting experience. Day one will be spent learning step by step techniques to sculpting a male head, hands and feet, in polymer clay. Day two will be spent assembling your elf on a wire armature. You will learn painting, adding hair and some basic costuming to complete your elf. All material supplied. Students are required to bring a metal knitting needle and a stylus for sculpting with and any other sculpting tools if they have some, however the knitting needle and stylus is all that is required. I will have sculpting tools and clay for sale, for your future dolls, should you be interested. You may bring small bits of fabric and or trims on day two,( if you would like to use in your costuming) however a selection will be provided as part of the class. Sorry, but there will be no refunds on missed workshop attendance.
